Perspective
I watched the "big kids" getting off the school bus this afternoon and it struck me that my kids will never love being with me as much as they do right now, at this stage in their lives. Once they grow older, they won't think I'm the coolest person in the world anymore, won't fall asleep on my shoulder every day, won't want me to hold them constantly, and will be totally content to entertain themselves. Even though parenting a young child is ridiculously hard, I appreciate all of these precious moments when nothing makes them happier than to just be with me.

Endless Torture of the Terrible Twos
Carter has officially entered the terrible 2's. I don't care that he's only 21 months...he's whipping out every trick in his little entourage trying to drive me out of my mind. Today we started the day in an unusual manner. At 8 when he got up, he wanted nothing to do with breakfast, no he wanted only to go outside and color the front sidewalk with his chalk. Ok, not too crazy, right? Well, after postponing breakfast for an hour, he was getting pretty cranky so I got him inside at last to get some food in him.
After taking both kids around the neighborhood for a walk, Carter wanted to play in his sandbox. Reese was amazingly napping at this point (this only occurs for 30 minute increments 2 or 3 times a day.) I went outside to "play" with him. Sitting on the edge of the sandbox was not enough for the little dictator..."In Momma" "In Momma" "In Momma" he kept repeating till I got into the sandbox with him. Then he hands me a shovel and bucket and prompts me to dig and make him castles which he immediatley sits on and smashes. Does wonders on the clean pants too, I must say.
We went inside after Reese woke up...30 minutes after she went to sleep and did some coloring. Or I should say, Carter colored a bit and then would hand me different crayons every 2 seconds to exchange with another color. We couldn't just keep them all on his high chair...I had to hold them for him.
Carter decided to skip his nap today. I put him in his crib but after an hour of listening to him bang on the rails and say Momma Momma Momma, I went up and released him from his prison. Sigh. Naptime is my favorite time of the day...or it was.
I had to get out of the house at this point...so I took the kids out to a couple stores just to burn some time and since it was 90 degrees out I didn't really feel like dragging them outside to play at this point.
Just because I didn't mention Reese doesn't mean she didn't contribute to my craziness today. With so little napping, she is extremely demanding. So what is the moral of my long and rambling story...having one kid is crazy...but two is insane!

Crazy rocker hair and rollercoaster rides
I really tried to get Reese's hair to lay flat this week..can you tell the difference?? I hope she doesn't hate me or blame me for her crazy hair but really, it dries this way no matter what I do with it. It has a mind of it's own...it has character. Everywhere we go people exclaim...look at all that hair!
