D-Day Distractions

I took Carter to the Pittsburgh Children's Museum this morning in an effort to get my mind off of it being June 30th and no baby yet. He loved it! There was a Bob the Builder room complete with a tool section, a slide, and about 10 different "diggers" the kids could climb on and "drive". Carter was in heaven.

There was also a water room where they have raincoats for the kids to wear and several large water tables and a fountain area.

Anyway, I had my 40 week appointment today and am 1 cm dialated and 25% effaced...which really means nothing, but it's good that something is happening I guess!

Testing grounds

I think there must be some hormonal link between Carter and I and that somehow he knows there is a baby coming any day now. For the last several weeks his moods and behavior have taken a steady plummet in the wrong direction and it is really getting to me. This past weekend he boycotted all naps and was absolutely miserable to be around. Last night at dinner he wouldn't eat anything, was spitting things out on himself and on the deck, was throwing food at me...let's just say he's spent a LOT of time in time out lately and it's getting old.

This morning he was up before 7 and I knew we were in for a rough one. I am not proud of the way I handled it necessarily...it was a domino effect of one bad thing leading to another but at least now Carter is happy and worn out and hopefully will take a good nap. Let's see, where do I start...

So Carter got up early...wouldnt' eat or drink and didn't want anything but for me to hold him which is just not that easy to do these days. He was crying or whining for like and hour straight and just being miserable and I admit, I put him back in his crib for 10 minutes and just let him cry it out. When I got him out though, he did seem to be calmer and actually ate his breakfast. He was then back to being grumpy and I went downstairs to get him some more juice because I was out. I almost stepped in cat barf when I went down which has been happening like every day this week and that was my breaking point. My retarded cat licks himself so much he's completely bald on his stomach and legs and then gets hairballs all the time. I was so frustrated at this point from my miserable kid and stupid pet that I went straight upstairs, got the hair clippers that we use on the dog, and sheared my cat. Yes, I did...I know, it's pretty sad I would let it come to that. I felt so much better afterwards though and Carter thought it was just a blast cutting the kitty's hair and he was in a better mood then too.

The rest of the morning was pretty typical, we went to the playground for 2 hours, Carter wetted through 2 diapers and pairs of shorts and one of my shirts, and now it's nap time. I'm crossing my fingers he takes a 4 hour nap today! Hahaha :)

Staying Busy

The weather was not so fine again today so Carter and I spent a fun morning out of the house...for a change of scenery. We went to the library for an hour where he played with all the stuffed animals they leave out for the kids. He had a leopard that was bigger than him that he refused to put down the whole time he was there...so cute. I guess all the visits to zoos has made him quite the animal lover!

After that we went to the Mall to visit the little play area, which he loves. He had a fun time running around there for about half an hour.

So I found a couple of ways to wear him out even on a day we couldn't be outside...Score! Hopefully he will take a nice long nap this afternoon.

The Latest

So I haven't posted in a while...we've been staying super busy preparing for Baby #2. Carter moved into his new room this past week and has done amazingly well. (I'll try to remember to post pictures later this weekend) It's like nothing ever changed and I'm so glad it didn't disrupt his sleeping at all.

He's still learning new words by the day. Some new(er) words he's using a lot now are: up, down, bug, bee, birdy, fish, mankie (blankie), on, off, penguin, mushroom, waffle, chair, eat, water, pretty, hill, mulch, money (which is actually bunny), owww.

I have my bags packed for the hospital and am pretty much ready to go, whenever baby decides it's time to enter the world. Hoping it's not too much longer now.

Let's Go Pens!

While watching the Stanley Cup Finals at a neighbor's house last night, Carter learned how to cheer for the home team. Whenever everyone else would cheer, he would throw his fist up into the air and say "GO!" It was so cute...I'm sure he has no clue what it means but his daddy sure was proud. :)

Worst Parent Ever Award

I think I must be the worst parent ever...or my kid is the most accident-prone ever. Carter has, in the last 4 days, fallen backwards off a couch and bumped his head, got hit in the forehead with a heavy door, dove into the couch and hit his head on a hard part, banged his head on a wall, fallen three times on cement and cut the same knee each time, and today he stuck his hand in the paper shredder when Derrick was using it and cut his finger. AhhhhH!!!!! I feel so awful, I really do watch him closely. Poor little kiddo.

Less than 4 weeks till baby #2 arrives now. I'm reading a great book I highly recommend to anyone pregnant or considering getting pregnant. "Your Best Birth" by Ricki Lake. Very eye opening and informative.
